Value of Perseverance
The value of perseverance—somehow the idea of perseverance sounds so much better in word rather than deed. However, when it comes to reading the Bible, few things profit more than reading on a consistent basis over the mundane and sometimes boring weeks, months and even years.
It is so much easier to talk about reading the Bible rather than sitting down and reading it. I mean, who sits and reads Leviticus and actually enjoys it on a regular basis? Few to none, which is one of the reasons it's important to re-ignite the vision for sustained and enjoyable times of reading the Word.
There is a Bible reading plan posted on the site that I have followed for the past year and a half. Even though I didn’t necessarily understand or want to read certain sections of the Word, I was “scheduled” to read that day, I tried to be consistent and do it anyway.
The result? Reading the Bible consistently has formed such a deep love and hunger for the Word of God. I am not saying that I did "the plan" perfectly everytime or everyday, but I have tried my hardest to read at least five chapters of the Bible everyday. I believe the Lord will unlock the Word to anyone who is hungry and makes a commitment to read on a consistent basis.
One last thing, this is not THE piece of the puzzle that has our hearts blazing in love with Jesus, but it is a guaranteed way to have our hearts come alive over time. By building our life around the pillars of prayer, fasting, purity, living in meekness, and being "mighty and zealous for the Word of God" (Acts 18:24), our love will abound more and more for the Father and Christ Jesus.
